Technology enhances and enables the clinical transformation that is taking place on Hawaii Island and nationwide through the Beacon Community Cooperative Agreement Program. Hawai‘i Island Beacon Community (HIBC) is building and strengthening health information technology (health IT) and exchange capability across Hawai‘i Island through electronic health records (EHR) implementation and meaningful use (MU) in two pilot health IT implementation projects: Alere Accountable Care Solutions in the the North Hawai‘i Region and Amalga UIS in the East Hawai‘i Region.
While it engaged in large scale health IT efforts, HIBC made it a primary focus to assist Hawai‘i Island providers with implementing certified EHRs and achieiving MU. With HIBC support, providers across Hawai‘i Island have made significant progress in EHR adoption in 2012. With State-level challenges to Medicaid providers’ obtaining MU incentive dollars, HIBC’s Medicare providers have been quicker to achieve success.
